In a cozy little town, every house had a tiny windmill on its roof.
They spun and whirred all day long, making a gentle, whishing music.
This was the sound of Windmill Town, a soft and happy hum.
But one morning, Lily woke up to a strange silence.
She looked out her window. All the windmills were still.
Not a single one was turning. The town was quiet and sad.
Lily put on her favorite yellow coat and went outside.
"Good morning, Mr. Oak," she said to the big tree on the corner.
The leaves rustled softly, as if whispering a reply.
Lily decided to find out why the windmills had stopped.
She walked to the hill at the edge of town, where the wind liked to play.
At the top, she saw a fluffy, gray cloud looking very gloomy.
"Hello, Mr. Cloud," said Lily. "Why are you so sad today?"
The cloud sighed a misty sigh. "The wind is resting. It feels lonely."
"Lonely?" asked Lily. "Why would the wind feel lonely?"
"The people in town are busy," whispered the cloud. "They've forgotten to talk to each other, and to the wind. No one says 'hello' to the breeze anymore."
Just then, a tiny, shy breeze swirled around Lily's ankles.
It was a little wind spirit named Zephyr.
"Hello," Lily said gently to the breeze. "Will you play with us again?"
Zephyr shimmered, feeling a bit happier because of Lily's kind words.
Lily had an idea. She thanked Mr. Cloud and Zephyr and ran back home.
She took out her box of colorful paper and her crayons.
She began making little cards, one for each house in the town.
On each card, she drew a smiling windmill and wrote a friendly message.
Then, she went from door to door, delivering her cards.
"Let's have a 'Greeting Day'!" she told everyone.
At first, people were surprised. But they liked Lily's idea.
The next morning, everyone came out into the sunny square.
Mr. Baker brought fresh bread. Mrs. Gardener brought flowers.
Everyone smiled and said "Good morning!" to their neighbors.
They looked up at the sky and called, "Hello, friendly wind!"
A wonderful thing began to happen.
A gentle breeze, feeling much less lonely, stirred in the trees.
It grew a little stronger, carrying the smell of bread and flowers.
It tickled the weathervanes and danced around the chimneys.
Then, it reached the first little windmill on Lily's roof.
With a soft *creak*, the windmill began to turn.
Then another followed, and another!
Soon, all the windmills were spinning happily.
*Whish-whirr, whish-whirr, whish-whirr!*
The music of Windmill Town was back, even sweeter than before.
Zephyr the wind spirit twirled joyfully around the square, playing with the children.
Mr. Cloud above turned white and fluffy again, smiling down at the town.
The people laughed and shared stories. They promised to remember Greeting Day.
Lily felt a warm happiness in her heart.
She learned that a simple "hello" could make a big difference.
The wind was now their friend, a playful part of their town.
From that day on, the windmills never stayed still for long.
Whenever the turning slowed, someone would always look up.
They would smile and send a cheerful greeting to the breeze.
And the wind, feeling welcomed and loved, would always answer.
It would puff its cheeks and blow, setting the windmills dancing once more.
Windmill Town remained a place of gentle music and warm hearts.
Lily knew that friendship, whether with people or with the wind, kept their world turning.
And every night, as she fell asleep to the sound of whishing windmills, she dreamed happy dreams.
Dreams of a friendly breeze, a smiling cloud, and a town where everyone belonged.
The end.
