Milo is a shy mouse who feels scared of many things, especially the tall creaky stair at the edge of the garden. One evening, his little sister's favorite red ball rolls up to the very top step. She starts to cry. Milo wants to help but his paws shake. He takes one tiny breath, then one tiny step, and keeps going up and up. At the top, he grabs the ball and brings it safely back down. His sister hugs him tight, and Milo learns that courage means trying even when you feel scared.
